BACK

Shyla Cummings busted onto the scene as a freshman sprinter, setting school records in the 55 meters (7.42), 60 meters (7.76), 100 meters (12.19) and 200 meters (24.98) during indoor season. She missed an Ohio Athletic Conference record in the 60 meters by just 0.01 second and also earned All-OAC honors as part of the 4x200 relay team, running the first leg to help the group place second in the league. She culminated her indoor season at the NCAA Championships, finishing ninth in the 200-meter dash.

Cummings then turned up the speed as outdoor season progressed, resetting her 200-meter school record at 24.67 and ultimately tallying four All-OAC performances at the league meet, helping Otterbein finish second as a team. She won the 100-meter dash and placed second in the 200 and as part of the 4x1 and 4x4 relays. Her standout year concluded at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning All-American honors in the 200-meters with a seventh-place finish, running 24.69 to just narrowly miss her school record.
