Wes Meadows

Marion, Ohio native Wes Meadows is simply one of the best players to ever don an Otterbein baseball uniform. Wes arrived in the fall of 2009 as a pitcher and utility infielder, but cemented himself into the starting lineup at catcher when the team needed someone to fill the spot.

Meadows gave Otterbein fans an incredible display of talent over his four years, earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) each season to go along with three All-Region awards. In addition to catching, Wes became a true utility player by also starting games on the mound, at third base, or in the designated hitter slot.

He was a preseason All-American pick prior to beginning his final year on the diamond, and lived up to the hype by becoming Otterbein’s first OAC Player of the Year since 1978, leading the Cardinals to the OAC Tournament championship game, breaking multiple school records, and finishing with a pair of AllAmerican selections to the D3Baseball.com first team and ABCA second team. Wes led the league in six hitting categories that season and set a new school-record with a 26-game hitting streak.

He left as Otterbein’s all-time leader for most hits (212), total bases (380), runs scored (147) and doubles (52), while finishing second in RBI (157), third in batting-average (.376), and top-10 in just about every other category.

More important than his play on the diamond was how he treated people and developed relationships. Wes is described by his teammates and coaches as a true class-act that showed up every day ready to help the team get better. All of these attributes make Meadows one of the top male athletes to ever come through Otterbein
