James Bradley

One of the purest shooters to wear an Otterbein uniform. James Bradley, a 6-2 guard from Columbus, Ohio, helped lead the Cardinals to the 1991 Final Four his senior year and was named to the All-America first team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Bradley, a two-time all-state selection and McDonald’s honorable mention All-American at Beechcroft High School, spent his first two seasons at The Ohio State University before transferring to Otterbein in January 1990. He led the team in scoring his junior season, averaging 22.1 points a game. He scored a career-high 50 points against Baldwin Wallace, hitting a school record 8 of 10 three-pointers and all 14 of his free throws. He was named Sports Illustrated’s “small college player of the week” for his efforts against Baldwin Wallace.

As a senior, Bradley led Otterbein in points, 861, rebounds, 174, and assists, 187. He also led the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring for the second-straight season and was named the conference’s player of the year.

In the NCAA Tournament, Otterbein made its way to the Final Four without leaving home, sweeping past Wittenberg, 88-62, in the second round; and UC San Diego, 108-95, and Calvin, 75-73, in the sectional. Bradley scored 22 of Otterbein’s first 23 points in the first five minutes against UC San Diego on his way to a season-high 43 points. Against Calvin, Bradley was held to a season-low 10, but hit the game-winner, a 15-foot jumper, with two seconds to play to send the Cards to the Final Four at Wittenberg. Bradley tallied 32 points in a 96-94 loss to WisconsinPlatteville in the NCAA semifinals.

Bradley holds numerous school records, including most points (861) and most field goals made (325) in a season. He ranks 12th on the Otterbein all-time scoring list, with 1,387 points.
