Compton, Ty
Granville native Ty Compton turned in a memorable senior year for the Cardinals, beginning the stretch as Otterbein’s player representative at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Football Media Day.
A 5’10” defensive back, Compton lettered all four years in football and started every game during his junior and senior seasons. He tallied 24 tackles and six pass break-ups during his final year.
Compton was also a four-year letterman on the baseball diamond, starting the final seven games of the team’s 2013 run to the OAC Tournament Championship game. He saved his best efforts for last, hitting a blistering .432 as a senior to become the first Cardinal in 28 years to win the OAC batting title.
Playing primarily as the designated hitter that season, Compton hit safely in all but five games en route to 48 hits, six doubles, a .550 slugging percentage and .455 on-base mark.
A sport management major with a 3..91 grade-point average, Compton cemented himself further into the record book by earning first team Academic All-America honors shortly after graduation. He was one of just 12 student-athletes voted to the first team and just 33 across the entire country.
A three-time Academic All-OAC pick, Compton went on to The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law after his time as a Cardinal.
