Smith, Dick

Dick Smith took some time off after high school to work, and it ultimately paid off as he moved to some shorter races and became a dominant long sprinter for Otterbein. Dick was a five-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion in the 300 meters and 400 meters along with contributing on relays. He was also a two time All-American, once in the 400 and once in the 4x400 relay. Smith also held four school records when he graduated and still has the all-time mark in the 400 at 47.75. Dick stayed around and helped as a part-time coach for a number of years after graduating, and still stays involved with Otterbein by helping wife Becky, Director of Alumni Relations, with many activities on campus.
