Between growing up in nearby Johnstown and having a father who was a principal in Westerville City Schools, Ryan was quite familiar with Otterbein and its golf program. Needless to say, it didn’t take much for Coach Dave McLaughlin to sell him on the successes of the program, which included four consecutive top-four finishes at the NCAA Division III Championships.
During Ryan's four years at Otterbein, the Cardinals continued their winning tradition with four-consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) team titles and a pair of fourth-place finishes at NCAA’s.
With no real flaws in his game, besting Ryan on the course proved to be a tough task. He tied for fifth at the OAC’s as a sophomore in 2001 before capturing medalist honors in 2002 as a junior. He narrowly missed out on becoming a back-to-back medalist in 2003, finishing runner-up by one stroke at the OAC championships but still becoming a three-time All-OAC performer in the process.
Dorff also turned in strong performances on the national stage by earning PING All-American honors in 2001, 2002 and 2003, which included a pair of top-20 finishes. He is one of just 10 student-athletes in Otterbein’s history to earn three All-America awards.
Equally as important to him, Ryan graduated Cum Laude with a double major in Economics and Finance and was also named an Academic All-American Scholar, by the Golf Coaches Association of America, following the 2002 and 2003 campaigns.
After spending 10 years in Chicago following graduation, Ryan moved backed to Ohio and now manages investment funds for a family office that includes private real estate construction, restaurants and movie financing. He and his wife, Lauren, reside in Bay Village with their young son, William.
A consummate team player, Ryan Dorff remains one of the most respected individuals that the men’s golf program has ever had.
