Finnegan, Emily
Emily Finnegan emerged as one of the top throwers in the region throughout her second season in a Cardinal uniform, and ultimately earned All-American honors in the discus as a sophomore (2017) and senior (2019). She remains one of the top throwers to ever come through the track and field program.
She began her sophomore year by breaking the school record in the weight throw during indoor season, tossing 50-4 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships to earn fourth place. Finnegan then turned to outdoor where she claimed the All-Ohio title with a toss of 149-5 in the discus, good enough to break the program’s 13-year old record. Finnegan solidified her spot at the NCAA Championships by besting that mark, throwing 152-2 at a Baldwin Wallace meet to enter the national stage with some momentum. She carried that consistency over to the NCAA’s, eventually finishing seventh in the 22-thrower field to warrant a podium spot. As a result of that performance, Finnegan became the 14th individual-event All-American for Otterbein women’s track and field.
Finnegan finished 10th at outdoor nationals as a junior before regaining a spot on the podium to culminate her career. She returned to SPIRE Institute in Geneva, and used her final college toss of 147-4 to jump from ninth to fifth place and earn a second All-American honor. Emily graduated with school records in the weight throw (52-7) and discus (156-1) while ranking second in the hammer (156-8).
