Febus, Cwinn
Medina native Cwinn Febus broke through and reached a new level of success as a junior in 2019, progressing throughout winter season and ultimately sneaking into the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass.
Febus, seeded 18th of 19 runners in the field, posted 8.21 in the prelims to qualify for the eight-man final the following day. He broke to a great start before clipping hurdle three and unfortunately fell down in a wild race, as two other competitors also fell on the opposite side of things.
Febus gathered himself to somehow cross the line in sixth place, and waited out a semi-lengthy appeal process before securing a spot on the podium as an All-American. He carried that momentum and confidence into outdoor season, carrying the fastest 400-meter hurdle time in the nation (52.81) throughout most of April.
He ended up qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the 110 and 400 hurdles, settling for 18th nationally in both events to culminate his spring campaign.
Febus delivered many other notable results throughout the 2019 calendar, winning an OAC indoor title in the 200-meter dash (22.33) and an outdoor crown as part of the 4x1 relay. Overall, he racked up a combined seven All-Ohio/OAC awards across both seasons.
