Hackney, Courtney
Courtney Hackney enjoyed a highly-successful run with the softball program from 2017-20, becoming part of three Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) championship teams and competing in a pair of NCAA Tournaments.
A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter, Hackney earned All-OAC honors as a junior at first base. Previously, she led the league in home runs (9) as a sophomore from the designated player spot and was ultimately part of a class that compiled a 97-38 record.
She tallied a .314 career batting average to accompany 61 RBI and 15 home runs, with the latter stat ranking second in program history. Hackney battled back through two offseason meniscus surgeries prior to her senior season, which was ultimately cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite that disappointment, Hackney culminated her career with perfect “icing on the cake” for her outstanding efforts in the classroom. A biochemistry and molecular biology major who graduated with a 3.98 GPA, she warranted first team CoSIDA Academic All-American honor from the DP slot.
Hackney was one of just 11 student-athletes across the nation chose to that heralded first team, and became the fifth-different selection in seven years for the Otterbein softball program.
