Keen, Kristin

In 2002, Kristin Keen became the first Academic All-America award winner in the Otterbein women’s soccer program. Kristin joined the team in a time of transition as a sophomore transfer in 2000. Her background in club soccer and a year in Division II college soccer had her ready to help Otterbein eventually win its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship in 2002.

An attacking Central Midfielder, Keen scored 25 goals, including nine game-winners, over the next three seasons. Included in the bunch was a goal against Mount Union in the 2002 regular season match to clinch an OAC Championship. Kristin also added 19 assists during her time at Otterbein, leaving her 4th all-time at Otterbein with 69 points. It was an exceptional total considering she played just three years as a Cardinal. Kristin earned a number of awards at Otterbein, becoming a 3x All-OAC selection, 2x Otterbein Most Valuable Player, 2x All-Ohio, and 2x All-Great Lakes Region. In addition, she was voted OAC Midfielder of the Year in 2002.

However, it was in the classroom where Kristin Keen really made her mark. In 2002 alone, she won first team academic honors at the conference, state and region levels in leading up to second team Academic All-American recognition. It was the first such award for Otterbein women’s soccer. A Life Science major, Kristin graduated with honors in 2003 before later earning her MS in Integrated Biomedical Science at Ohio State. She completed her education at the Mt. Carmel College of Nursing and now works as a Registered Nurse at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
