Hiscox, Brian

BACK

The record books speak for themselves regarding the college baseball career for Brian Hiscox, who remains one of the most feared hitters to ever play in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Burton, Ohio native arrived in the fall of 2006 to join a highly-reputable and competitive program, which had fallen one game shy of the NCAA Division III World Series but was entering 2007 as the preseason No. 1-ranked team in the country…

Hiscox worked to find a role as a freshman and ultimately played in 18 games with 10 starts, including six come May (at either first base or designated hitter) as the team was making another postseason run. The promising newcomer had three hits during the NCAA Mideast Regional, including a 2 for 4 effort against Wooster in an elimination game.

The slugger became an everyday starter as a sophomore, when he led the OAC in home runs and began establishing himself as a dominant presence at the plate. Hiscox hit safely in all three postseason games that year, where he tallied five RBI and was walked another five times.

Hiscox moved over to play third base as a junior after spring break and turned in a memorable All-American campaign, hitting .378 while ranking third nationally in home runs (18), 17th in slugging percentage (.818) and 28th in total bases (121). That stretch included a home run in eight-consecutive games… which set a new NCAA Division III record and tied the all-divisions record. Those marks still stand today.

Hiscox returned to first base for his senior campaign, which began with a selection to the D3baseball.com preseason All-America list and ended with becoming a 2x ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America selection. He would ultimately help the squad to three postseason appearances overall and enjoy 103 victories during his time in a Cardinal uniform.

A broadcasting and public relations major, he cemented his legacy as the first baseball player (sixth across all sports) in school history to earn All-American honors for athletics/academics in the same season. Hiscox also received the OAC Clyde Lamb Award, presented annually to the top senior male and female student-athlete at each of the ten schools in the conference.

The 3x All-OAC pick and 2x All-Region performer is littered across program record books. Most notably, the big bomber remains Otterbein’s all-time leader in both single-season (18) and career (44) home runs… with the latter also ranking second in OAC history.

For the Cardinals, Hiscox also ranks second all-time in slugging percentage (.724), fourth in RBI (142), six in total bases (331) and ninth in batting average (.359). Hiscox has remain involved with sports and education ever since, going on to become the Director of Athletics at his alma mater (Berkshire High School).
