Gonya, Elaine

Excelling in women’s basketball, cross country, both indoor and outdoor track, and in the classroom, Elaine left her mark on Otterbein in a variety of ways. In basketball, Elaine ranks among the top 15 to ever play at Otterbein in career scoring, rebounding, assists and steals and was selected All-Ohio Athletic Conference twice. In cross country, she was named Most Valuable Runner at Otterbein three straight years and received all-conference recognition in 1991. By the time her indoor track career was over, she held six Otterbein records, was two-time OAC Most Valuable Field Events Performer, and was all-conference in three events. Her outdoor track career gained her even more recognition as she received All-America honors in the heptathlon and all-conference awards in eight different events as well as four more OAC Most Valuable Field Events Performer awards. On top of these athletic achievements, Elaine was named to the 1992 COSIDA Academic All-America team and won the 1992 Clyde A. Lamb Award, given to the top scholar-athlete in the OAC.
