Graduating from Otterbein in 1956, Curt was an active athlete and ROTC student. He was a four-sport letterman in football, baseball, tennis and cross country. As a senior, Curt was president of Varsity “O” and received the Augspurger-Ballenger Award. After graduation, Curt began graduate school at The Ohio State University and assisted Moe Agler as football coach at Otterbein. He entered the Air Force in the spring of 1957, and among his duties served as director of base recreation and sport programs at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. Following his tour of duty, Curt taught at Bexley High School and coached baseball and football while completing his master’s and Ph.D. at OSU. In 1963, he became a professor at Otterbein and coached the men’s basketball team and assisted with football. Curt left Otterbein to develop a Master’s program in physical education at the University of Vermont, then coached men’s basketball and women’s tennis for 10 years at Williams College (MA) while chairing the physical education department. Prior to his retirement in 1998, Curt served as athletic director and creative writing instructor for Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (CA). Curt has authored two books and has written numerous articles in magazines and newspapers. He remains active in education, assisting the women’s tennis team at Williams College and as a trustee for the foundation which supports the International Christian University in Mitaka, Japan.
