Vida Shauck Clements graduated from Otterbein College in 1901. Although she and her husband, Frank Orville Clements, who graduated from Otterbein in 1896, would have no children of their own, their hope was to help the students of the College through their ability to give back. As a result of this selfless passion, the Vida S. Clements Foundation has given almost five million dollars to various College initiatives that stood to promote the lives of all Otterbein students. Their donation of $3,645,000 to the Frank O. and Vida S. Clements Recreation Center allowed for the creation of a place on campus that would not only provide a new dimension of health, physical education and recreational opportunities for all Otterbein students, but a way for the College to attract more students and promote growth benefiting everyone on campus.
