A 1953 alum, Bud excelled in both football and baseball, but made a name for himself with his work as a graduate. In 1958, Bud joined the Department of Health, Physical Education and Athletics and stayed at the College for 36 years. During this time, Bud taught the majority of the courses in the Physical Education Department. He also was an assistant football coach and head track and field coach and head cross country coach until he took over as athletic director in 1975. Serving as the athletic director until 1992, the program flourished under Bud and facilities such as the Rike Center, new baseball and soccer fields, and renovations to the football stadium and track came about. Bud also served as OAC president from 1983-1985, a member of the NCAA Council from 1982-1986, and still serves on the “O” Club Executive Committee. In 1999, Dr. Yoest received the Distinguished Service Award for his incredible contribution to the College.
