Amidst the Great Depression, there was nothing causing Otterbein basketball fans to be depressed when it came to the 1933 Otterbein basketball team. Led by Coach Dr. R. K. Elder, the team went 12-0, becoming the only undefeated collegiate basketball team in the state of Ohio that year. As one sports writer put it before selections to the All-Ohio Conference teams were made, “you could just about use the entire Otterbein team for the All-Ohio team and you wouldn’t be far off.” The statement said it all as the team ended up outscoring their opponents 582 to 353 over the course of the year on their way to the team’s first Ohio Conference Championship.
