Jones, Dominic
Defensive back and kick return specialist Dominic Jones spent only one season with the Otterbein football program, but managed to put up some of the most outstanding statistics in the nation during his stint as a Cardinal. After finishing his high school career as a highly-touted recruit at Brookhaven High School, Jones played two impressive seasons at NCAA Division I University of Minnesota before transferring and spending a year away from the game.
Jones became an immediate impact player once he stepped on campus in Westerville for the 2010 season. As a defensive back, he tallied 66 tackles, including 13 for a loss, four sacks, six pass-breakups, and two interceptions. As a kick returner, Jones finished second in Division III with a 31.1 yard kick-return average while recording three touchdowns in the process.
Following his standout season, Jones was named to the D3football.com All-America first team as a defensive back and return specialist. His trophy case now includes the Lee Tressel Award, presented to the most outstanding defensive back in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Jones continued to amass accolades as he earned first-team All-OAC, OhioCollegeFootball.com first-team, All-Ohio Division III, and D3football.com All-North Region first team honors. He continued his football career in the fall of 2011 by signing a professional contract with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League.
