Boggs, Bob
Bob Boggs ran in high school for former Otterbein student-athlete Jack Lintz (member of the Ohio Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame). While at Otterbein, Bob had an outstanding career in XC and track in leading both teams to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) championships, XC in 1986, 1988 and 1989, and track to its first ever in 1990. In XC, Bob was a four time All-OAC runner finishing eighth, third, first and first in his four years. He was also four-time All-Region and two time All-American, finishing 13th as a junior and 25th as a senior. In track, Boggs is on Otterbein’s all-time top-10 list in three events; steeple chase, 5K and 10K. In 1990, Bob requested that he be entered in four distance events because he was determined to be a part of history at Otterbein. He ended up winning the 10K on Friday evening then kicked off Saturday’s session by winning the 3000 meter steeple chase. Bob then ran the 1500 meters 20 minutes after winning the steeplechase, and finished third only to be disqualified for bumping another runner. However, he rebounded an hour and a half later to win the 5000 meter run. In spite of the DQ, Otterbein did win their first OAC championship in men’s track and field. Overall, Boggs was a six-time OAC champion in distance events and an outstanding student who has gone on to a successful business career
