Dorff, Ryan
In addition to being one of the top men’s golfers to play for Otterbein, Johnstown native Ryan Dorff remains one of the most respected individuals that the program has ever had. A three-time All-American, Ryan was an extremely smart student-athlete that served as a mentor for everyone else on the team.
With no real flaws in his game, besting Ryan on the course proved to be a tough task. He tied for fifth at the OAC’s as a sophomore before capturing medalist honors in 2002 as a junior, shooting a one-over par 145 (71-75) to win by two strokes. He narrowly missed out on becoming a back-to-back medalist in 2003, finishing runner-up by one shot at the conference event but still becoming a three-time All-OAC performer in the process.
Dorff also turned in strong performances at nationals, finishing 14th as a sophomore, 20th as a junior, and 31st during his final season. The Cards did not make the nationals during Dorff’s senior campaign in 2003, but he did qualify as an individual where he rallied with closing rounds of 73-73 to earn All-American honors a third time.
Otterbein won four-consecutive OAC titles during Dorff’s time in Westerville and made three NCAA Championship appearances. The 2001 squad won an impressive four tournaments en route to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA’s.
