Ehlinger, Matt

Matt Ehlinger is one of eight Otterbein men’s golfers to have earned multiple All-American awards. Also a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) performer, Matt was a key piece for some Otterbein teams that made noise on the national scene.

Ehlinger improved each season he was in Westerville, coming in ninth alone at the 1995 OAC Championships before the Cards finished second in a rain-shortened NCAA Championship event. Matt posted a third-place individual finish at the OAC’s in 1996 as Otterbein held off rival John Carroll by three strokes for the league crown. He then went on to capture honorable mention All-American status.

His best season would come in 1997 when he posted rounds of 72 and 74, respectively, to finish fourover par and earn medalist honors at the OAC Championships. The Cards suffered a tough two-stroke loss to John Carroll that season in the team standings, but rebounded with a third-place NCAA result as the host school at nearby Medallion Country Club. Ehlinger led the charge by finishing fourth individually and earning first-team All-American honors.
