Pitzen, B.J.

B.J. Pitzen enjoyed a very productive career for the Otterbein men’s golf program. A graduate of Toledo St. John’s High School, Pitzen finished tied for sixth at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships in 1999 before capturing medalist honors with a fantastic performance the following spring.

Pitzen shot a two-day total of 141 that season, posting 72 during the opening round before shooting the low-round of the tournament (69) on day two. His score bested the second-place finishers by seven strokes.

His success did not stop at the conference level, however, as Pitzen helped Otterbein play to a pair of fourth-place finishes at the NCAA’s in 1999 and 2000. The 2000 event was easily his best with a three-day total of 217 (+4), including an opening-round 67, to finish tied for sixth and earn first-team All-American honors.

Though he was not heavily recruited out of high school, past coaches and teammates describe B.J. as one of the more focused, hard-working, and devoted players to come through the program. A pure ball striker, Pitzen ultimately transferred to and graduated from Florida Southern College so he could play golf year-round.
