Williams, Brett
Brett Williams came from a strong pedigree of golf, enjoying a strong high school career and qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur. He initially began his college life at Ohio University, but decided that a change of scenery was in order and ended up transferring to Otterbein.
The Maryland native quickly emerged on the scene in Westerville, and ultimately ran away from the field to win the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship by seven strokes as a redshirt freshman in 2001. Williams posted 71-70 that spring to finish at one-under par and help lead Otterbein to its ninthconsecutive OAC crown.
A solid player who was consistent from tee to green, Brett helped guide the Cardinals to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships later that season in Weldon Springs, Mo. He finished tied for 20th individually, earning All-American honors and the prestigious National Freshman of the Year award.
Williams, who now resides in Baltimore, later transferred to Ohio State where he became a two-year player for the Buckeyes.
