Weinberg, Bobby

Midfielder Bobby Weinberg enjoyed a stellar career for the Otterbein men’s soccer program, compiling 29 goals, 24 assists, and earning three All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) awards.

Weinberg, who possessed division one pace and quickness, started as an outside-midfielder before getting stronger and eventually making the move to center-mid. An intelligent player who always found a gap, Weinberg had a great engine that allowed him to cover much of the field. He had the uncanny ability to lull defenders into a false sense of security, and then blow by them and deliver a powerful shot from either foot.

Bobby helped lead Otterbein to a 19-1-1 record in 1999, sweeping through OAC play and advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round. The Cards were ranked as high as fifth in the national poll that season. Weinberg’s senior season attracted the highest individual accolades, receiving second-team All-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and an OAC Midfielder of the Year award.

Weinberg, who also garnered an All-Mideast Region award as a senior, graduated in 2002 and immediately came on as the program’s graduate assistant. The Cardinals racked up two more OAC titles during his time on the staff, including the 2002 run that ended with a 1-0 loss to Messiah in the national championship match.
