Scott Alpeter came to Otterbein from Heath High School and from a diverse and outstanding athletic family. His sister was an All-American volleyball player and his brother is a pro golfer. Scott holds the school record in the 3000-meter steeple chase along with sitting third on the all-time list in both the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters. In cross country, Scott was all-conference three times, all-region three times, and qualified for the national meet twice where he missed All-America by one spot his senior year. He won the OAC individual title in XC in 1985 and was an individual champion in track three times. Scott capped his outstanding running career at Otterbein in his final race by finishing third in the NCAA championships in the steeple chase, earning All-America honors and setting the school record. Scott has stayed involved with the distance program at Otterbein, first as an assistant and now as the men’s head cross country coach. During 10 years as assistant coach, the Cards won six team titles and finished second four times in the conference.
