Callicoat, Todd
Todd Callicoat, a three-time track and field All-American from Pataskala, Ohio was arguably the best in a large group of outstanding throwers developed by assistant track and field coach Guido Ricevuto.
Callicoat, at 6-4, 255 lbs., dominated the Ohio Athletic Conference over his four-year career. He ended a 14-year dry spell of NCAA track and field champions for the Cardinals, bringing home a national title in the shot put from the 1990 NCAA indoor championships. Callicoat threw the shot a school record 53-10 1/4 at the nationals, a record which stands today. He also holds the outdoor record of 54-10 1/2, and sits fifth all-time in the discus with a throw of 154-4.
An eight-time OAC champion, Callicoat won the shot put six times and discus twice. He earned back-to-back “most outstanding field athlete” honors at the OAC outdoor championships as a junior and senior, winning the shot and discus both years. Most importantly, in 1990, his performance helped lead Otterbein to its first-ever OAC championship in men’s track and field as Otterbein finished 22.5 points ahead of Mount Union in the field of nine schools.
A 1990 graduate, Callicoat was also a three-year starter at offensive tackle on the football team.
